The cognitive and physical investments I made directly prior to my critical Traumatic Brain Injury incurrence, have supported my continued physical & cognitive progression, astronomically. The actions of mine that helped & continue to help include = meditation, acting mindfully throughout the day, yoga & using my brain extensively and continually while practicing my art of writing.

Interestingly, I was employing these practices, far more than ever before, directly prior to taking part in the Sanctuary. Hence my attendance of, and investment in, the mindfulness retreat. Although this accident -> injury -> disability is by far the worst circumstance to ever befall me, the timing of such (within my existence) was & is incredibly blessed.

The continued reality of my progression, much of which is clear in this bog (posts gaining in complexity, quality & relevance over time) withstands. That being said, there is a HUGE caveat (as is true of many symptoms resulting from this injury>disability ((extremely little is simple & straight forward > I’m rebuilding my brain, the human hard drive, after-all!))). Specifically, the caveat I’m referring to, is the relatively recently published posts that were clearly, to readers (a dear friend of mine reflected this reality and resultantly I too became aware) composed & posted quickly. My remembrance & willingness to return & edit, is not anywhere near consistent or timely presently. My mind still strongly craves deviation in focus! Aaaaa late onset ADD – an example of just 1 of the prevailing & all-encompassing symptom of my critical Traumatic Brain Injury.

I can attest, personally, to my continued recovery presently, after a month over 12 years of rehabilitation. In support of this observation, is validation from relevant & knowledgeable professionals, which is always hugely appreciated! Substantiating the value, personal as well as for all survivors, of the practices of mine that I referenced at the forefront of this post, are the recommendations of national Traumatic Brain Injury organizations. The Brain Injury Association of America recommends both yoga & meditation to such an extent, that free video libraries of both are offered to survivors at no cost. Activating your brain routinely & consistently, as I’m actively practicing amidst composition, is just a given for protecting & bettering the brain. As the saying goes, use it or lose it!

The reality of this recovery being lifelong, is unendingly evident. At least I’m well on my way! It’s magical that beloved, formerly held practices of mine, are distinctly identified to facilitate recovery.
