My dad recounted this story to me recently and I found it hilarious, so I thought I’d share it with you, for your enjoyment:

Doctors & nurses, that work in the neurology unit of California Pacific Medical Center, chose to watch men ram their heads into each other: football. These are doctors who are revered in their field, whichdedicated to healing individuals that have incurred brain trauma

I find that a tad hypocritical…to say the least, but they are American humans, whose work, intellect & care I GREATLY revere and appreciate. Who am I to second guess the way in which they clear their minds? It obviously doesn’t interfere with their stupendous ability to heal & very likely, serves them. Everyone’s performance improves when they’re given a respite.

All of the Mds that I’ve spoken with, once they learn the details of my TBI, vouch for that truth undoubtedly.

Tese (my dad) as well as his stupendously dedicated partner, Emily, who both remember the hospital (unlike I) recounted everyone in the waiting room’s fixation on the super bowl. Doctors, nurses & survivors of brain trauma (that weren’t confined to their beds: largely aneurism survivors) alike, were all fixated. This = burly men intentionally smashing their whole bodies, most predominantly, their heads, into each other, in the nuero unit waiting room.

A very relevant anecdote: the football game was between Seattle (where I grew up) & SanFrancisco (the city I was inhabiting when I incurred my severe brain injury).

I know not who won. Neither Tese, Emily nor Mom can recall either. Neither Tese or my Mom, have ever been football junkies, not to mention that they were all in a severely heightened emotional state!

My Mom refused to even watch the game & understandably so! Her only child was on the brink of death because her brain (certainly unintentionally!) was bashed in by a light pole. These built men were *choosing* to ram their heads into other built men…

I did look it up, in order to offer a closing to this post. Seattle & SanFrancisco had 2 games in 2013 (The year I was in & released from CPMC ((the 3rd of the 3 hospitals I attended))). Both teams won 1 of the 2 games.

Ah well, I suppose we have to live on unknowing.
