It’s remarkably interesting that I forgot this truth: that being a writer (and therefore, having the inclination to write fervently & frequently) demands reading.
Not only does reading support my love of the written word, it also offers me inspiration: what the book or article I’m reading is about, where & when it takes place, the characters & their passions…Due to my lack of reading lately (as a result of memory difficulty. For example, I wonder: “How are the 2 character’s in this scene related to 1 another?” I have not felt inspired to read, & therefore, to write.
It’s absolutely sensible, that a non-writer wouldn’t understand this correlation. For instance: My dad’s been on me about writing more often, but I still haven’t felt compelled. His tagline is: “a writer that doesn’t write?” Now I think that “a writer that doesn’t read?” would be just as appropriate and probably will help facilitate the writing.
Only recently (as a result of my resurgence of reading) did I identify, that a lack of reading, is why I haven’t felt compelled to write.
