Lots of soft and subtle makes strong,

like water and waves.

My love can hold you.

But I won’t be ruled, contained or carried away.

The ocean’s strength lies in her vastness,

her flexibility, her open seas.

The moon pulls tides without effort.

The land guides little, just the direction of streams.

Water sings a song of knowing,

and wants to be known too.

Meet in the depths of her silence,

and the sun-shimmering pools.

When you speak of a drive for commitment I wonder – why?

What will this commitment give us that we don’t already have?

I’m confused by your fixation on it.

And still I’m drawn to your unilateral grounding.

My love looks like a desire to be understood and to understand.

What makes you want to fight for me – against my flow?

There are plenty of strong currents in a river to ride.

Why forge upstream?
