Never before have I been so appreciative of the people in my life. My yoga therapist recently lent me an excellent book written by a journalist for the Washington Post who had a brain injury– as I’m just beginning this book I’ll tell you more about it as I go :). But I’m very provoked by this piece & the similarities in our stories. We’re even quite similar in age. No I didn’t work for a famous paper. But I am a writer whose had a brain injury and I totally get why she thought “well, this would be an ideal story…if only I could remember all of it.” That’s precisely how I feel! Granted, that’s a huge assumption on my part 🙂 I don’t actually know how she felt, of course.
There will, no doubt, be gigantic gaps in my story, where I will need parents and friends to fill pieces in. So far, she’s begun to tell the story by explaining what she encounters daily at the Washington Post + explaining feeling funny & trying to understand where this sickness came from. She goes through sneezes on the bus thinking “hmmm did I get this sickness from her?” It’s funny to read as an audience member as you think: “That’s not it at all!” Granted, you also completely understand her confusion, especially when going through something remarkably similar.
